Murder Mystery 2 (MM2) has been around forever and it's still one of the most played games on Roblox. Every round: one Murderer, one Sheriff, everyone else is Innocent. Sounds simple - but winning consistently? That takes game sense, smart movement, and knowing exactly how to play each role. Plus there's a whole trading economy that's massive. Here's everything.

How It Works
Three roles, assigned randomly each round:
- Murderer - Has a knife. Kill everyone without getting caught by the Sheriff.
- Sheriff - Has a gun. Find and shoot the Murderer before they wipe everyone out.
- Innocent - No weapons. Survive until the Sheriff handles it, or pick up the gun if they die.
Murderer kills everyone? They win. Sheriff (or Hero who grabbed the gun) shoots the Murderer? Innocents win. Sheriff shoots wrong person? They die and drop the gun.
Playing Murderer
Hardest role but most satisfying when you pull it off. Here's how:
Early - Blend In
- Don't pull out your knife immediately. Keep it hidden. Walk around, collect coins, act exactly like an Innocent.
- Find the Sheriff first. Watch who's being cautious, scanning rooms, following suspicious players. Sheriffs behave differently.
- Stay in groups. Being alone makes you suspicious.
Mid - Start Picking People Off
- Target isolated players. Wait for someone to wander off, take them out quietly, rejoin the group.
- Prioritize the Sheriff. Your biggest threat. Take them out early and the round gets way easier.
- Use chaos. When players panic after a death, they scatter. Pick off stragglers during the confusion.
Late - Control the Gun
- If the Sheriff dies, guard the gun. The dropped gun is the only thing that can stop you. Keep it in your line of sight.
- Don't throw your knife from far away unless you're sure. Missing reveals you to everyone who sees it.
- Be patient. Rushing kills gets you caught. The best Murderers take their time.
Playing Sheriff
High pressure - one shot, one chance. Here's how to make it count:
Finding the Murderer
- Don't show your gun early. If the Murderer knows who has it, you become target #1.
- Watch behavior, not appearance. The Murderer follows players, camps corners, moves toward isolated targets.
- Listen for the knife sound. When they equip it, there's a distinct "clink." Train your ears for it.
- Wait for visual confirmation. Only shoot when you SEE the knife or see them kill someone. Guessing gets you killed.
Taking the Shot
- Use first-person for aiming. Switch when the Murderer's close for better precision.
- Don't shoot mid-jump. Wait for the peak of their jump or when they land. Movement's predictable at those moments.
- Stay mobile while aiming. Move sideways while tracking. Standing still gets you hit by thrown knives.
- Use Shift Lock. Helps with aiming and lets you peek around corners without fully exposing yourself.
Playing Innocent
Most people think Innocent is boring. Wrong. Good Innocent play wins games.
- Stay near groups but not too close. 4-5 people nearby is safe. Tight huddle of 8 is an easy multi-kill target.
- Watch for suspicious behavior. Someone following people? Camping dark corners? Call them out in chat.
- Don't wander alone. Empty rooms and narrow hallways are where you die. Stay in open areas with escape routes.
- Be ready to grab the gun. If the Sheriff dies, watch where it drops. If the Murderer isn't camping it, grab it.
- Use coins as intel. Watch who avoids coins - the Murderer might skip them to stay focused on killing.
- Run unpredictably. If chased, jump, change direction, use obstacles. Don't run in a straight line.
Movement & Map Tips
- Learn every map. Knowing layouts, hiding spots, and escape routes is a massive advantage for any role.
- Use Shift Lock. Better movement control. Lets you look around corners without exposing your character.
- Never run straight. Zig-zag, jump, change direction. This applies whether you're running FROM the Murderer or chasing AS the Murderer.
- Use obstacles. Tables, pillars, walls - put them between you and threats. Knife throw has limited range.
- Know the safe spots. Some maps have elevated platforms or tight spaces that are harder for the Murderer to reach quickly.
- Sound matters. Footsteps give away positions. Walk slowly when sneaking up on someone or hiding.
Best Perks
Small advantages that add up over time:
- Ninja (Murderer) - Silences the knife equip sound. Extremely powerful because the Sheriff can't hear you pull it out.
- Haste (Murderer) - Move faster after a kill. Helps chain eliminations before people scatter.
- Trap (Murderer) - Place a trap that reveals player locations. Good for finding the last survivors.
- Xray (Sheriff) - See the Murderer's name through walls briefly. Helps confirm suspicious players.
- Radio (Innocent) - Broadcasts a location ping when you die, helping the Sheriff find the Murderer.
Trading Without Getting Scammed
MM2 has one of the biggest trading economies on Roblox. Here's how to not lose your items:
How Values Work
- Values are based on rarity AND demand. A rare item nobody wants is worth less than a common item everyone wants.
- Values change daily. Market trends, events, new releases all affect prices.
- No official values in-game. The community uses independent value lists.
Trusted Value Sources
- Supreme Values - Most widely used value database.
- MM2Values - Another reliable community list.
- Traderie - Has a trade calculator that tells you Win, Fair, or Loss.
Item Tiers
- Godly - High value. Essential for serious trading.
- Ancient - Event-based, very rare. Some are extremely valuable.
- Chroma - Color-changing effects. Used as anchors in big trades.
- Legendary / Rare / Uncommon / Common - Standard tiers with lower values.
Don't Get Ripped Off
- Hit level 10 first. Trading's locked until then.
- Always check values before trading. Never accept without looking up both items.
- Only trade in-game. Use the official trade system. Nothing else.
- "Too good to be true" = scam. Someone offering a Godly for your Legendary? It's a trap.
- Flip event items. Get them early when they drop, trade after the event ends when supply drops and demand rises.
Why You Keep Losing
- Showing your weapon too early. Whether knife or gun, keeping it hidden is always smarter.
- Sheriff shooting without proof. Guessing who the Murderer is gets you killed. Wait for visual confirmation.
- Running alone as Innocent. You're an easy target. Stay with the group.
- Ignoring the dropped gun. If the Sheriff dies, someone needs to pick it up. Don't just stand there.
- Getting scammed in trades. Always use value lists. Never let someone rush you.
- Not learning maps. Map knowledge is a huge advantage. Play each one multiple times and memorize layouts.
- Moving in straight lines. Predictable movement gets you killed regardless of role.
